Maame Kwaabah Stephens, a Brand Ambassador for the National Blood Service, Ghana on Saturday, March 3rd 2018, organized a blood donation awareness walk to mark her 40th birthday celebration.
The “March March” walk, as she christened it, brought hundreds of volunteers from corporate Ghana including students from GHANATA Senior High School. The walk was to create awareness of voluntary blood donation and its benefits and also to encourage people to live a healthy lifestyle.
The pleasurable atmosphere up the hills of Peduase on that day, inspired many volunteers, including the students from GHANATA Senior High School to give blood, even though the focus of the walk was not to donate blood on that day.
Over 80 units of blood were collected at the end of the day to augment the stock level at the National Blood Service.
According to Maame Kwaabah Stephens, her motivation for organizing the walk was based on her passion and love for voluntary blood donation and also to assist the blood service to intensify its public education on the need for constant blood supply.
Dr. Justina Kordai Ansah, The Chief Executive Officer of the National Blood Service, Ghana who graced the occasion commended the Brand Ambassador for her passion and dedication towards voluntary blood donation activities. She assured the brand ambassador that the NBSG will always support such initiatives in making sure that the public is better informed on the need for regular voluntary blood donation in Ghana.
